Uncovering Neuropuncture

Neuropuncture - What you need to know

Neuropuncture had been on my radar for several years. One of my mentors Pete Larking, who is the founder of Neuromedtec, inspired me to explore it further during his training to become a Neuropuncture instructor.

Musculoskeletal anatomy & Neuroanatomy was a large component to the BCHs Acupuncture and an area that interested me during my studies. Western Medicine content was approximately 50 percent of material covered. I decided to spend more time studying this subject and opted for an extra year to comprehensively understand the underlying mechanisms of how acupuncture works. The question that intrigued me most was how could a 25 mm sterile needle invoke such a profound response within the nervous system? This led to a key area of focus in musculoskeletal (MS) conditions.

My initial area of focus once I was qualified was certainly MS injury. However, this quickly progressed to treating Shingles, Huntington’s & concussion. I knew that the information available to us during the period I was studying was changing. Many technological advances in the Western Medicine world, and beyond, were being documented when used to perform intricate surgeries including transplant surgeries that were once impossible. Although I could see definite patterns and links emerging connecting acupuncture to the treatment of more serious neurodegenerative conditions involving the Central Nervous System (Brain) & Neuromuscular conditions, I could see gaps emerging too.

After nearly 5 years of clinical practice, I was introduced to Neuropuncture. It turned a light on for me. It was the missing link bringing acupuncture up to speed and into the 21st Century. This is my opinion and now I am learning more about what Neuropuncture can do, I want to share its amazing benefits.

Electroacupuncture

I was certified to use Electroacupuncture (EA).  EA was established in 1940-50s with research instigated by Ji Sheng Han and this is when the neuroscience of acupuncture began. Ji Sheng Han continued his work into the late 90’s. It has long been known that EA stimulation on an acupuncture point can create change by recruiting the underlying structures and elicit a nervous system response.

A vast body of research is available which documents thousands of trials out of China demonstrating results with positive outcomes. But for me in a clinical hands-on setting and seeing patients on a day-to-day basis, using the 1950’s EA technology didn’t give me or the patients the results we were both looking for, until I started using more modern 2009 designed machines AWQ Pro 105 with a stable square wave. The Pantheon is available for clinical use and I will be integrating it into the clinic over the course of the next 12 months.  I am waiting to integrate this machine once more current research emerges about the use of different band width. The AWQ Pro 105 has the option to change the band width. When different bands widths are used, different treatments can be done. The Neuropuncture model recommends the use of either machine in any clinical setting.

To recap, once I started using the AWQ in the clinical setting of daily treatment, I finally saw profound changes in all the key areas mentioned above.

Why this happens is simple, a Neuropuncture framework which I apply to every treatment and wanted to share this as it underpins why this modality of treatment works.  I will point out here that I still use the Traditional 8 methods / 4 methods diagnostic framework from Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Neuropuncture Framework

The use of the Neuropuncture framework provides us with uniformity and continuity within each treatment.

  • Prescription – Point protocol

  • Dosage – Milli Htz or Micro Htz

  • Timeframes – Number of treatments required

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) models do work in a similar way, as mentioned above.  But Neuropuncture not only applies a set framework, it also applies a specific dosage and by dosage we mean current - milli or micro.

Mirco for the local effect to reduce inflammation and begin to repair soft tissue or for facial pathology such as TMJ or vestibular nerve damage.

Milli current for activation of:

  • Spinal segment to assist in repair of disc herniation

  • Endogenous Opioid Circuit (EOC) to assist in activation Mu receptors in brain to regulate the release of neuropeptides benefiting Depression & Anxiety

  • Central Nervous System (CNS) help to restore brain function by creating neuroplasticity benefiting stroke and Huntington’s, concussion, severe migraine

Micro current for activation of:

  • Neuromuscular – myofascial trigger point helping in reduction of inflammation with ACC injury, soft tissue injury.

Neuropuncture in the community

The local health care community should be aware that Neuropuncture is being offered locally and I believe it can bridge the gap in our health system and long-term relieve the heavy loading placed on mental health, concussion rehabilitation, pre & post-surgical care, pre & post chemotherapy care and beyond.

I am currently treating all the above conditions with positive results, the majority with successful outcomes. I am truly inspired by this leading-edge technology combined with TCM roots to provide the ultimate in-patient care.  It is important to keep TCM and use the best of both worlds. This is happening now in New Zealand, not in a lab thousands of miles away.

One of the favourite sayings in Neuropuncture is treatments are designed to Neuroregulate, Neuromodulate and Neurorehabiltate restoring and maintaining homeostasis.

I plan to complete my Neuropuncture certification within 6 – 12 months and plan to study towards a Doctorate in Neuropuncture.  I have taken a 10 year lease on the new clinical space as I recently expanded the clinic to ultimately accommodate 10 patients per hour. I have recruited a TCM practitioner with the plan in mind to become a Certified Neuropuncturist and plan to recruit more practitioners to implement Neuropuncture so the wider community can benefit from its long-term health benefits.

I am in my second year of training towards the Neuropuncture Certification and am a GOLD member of NeuroMedTec.

I look forward to helping you take care of your mind, body and soul.
